The University of Texas Arlington is situated in Dallas-Fort Worth. It is the largest university in North Texas and the second largest in The University of Texas System. The University of Texas Arlington campus is spread over 420 acres. It has also been accredited with Research-1 Classification by the Carnegie Foundation.

It is a doctoral university with high research activity. The University of Texas Arlington surpassed the 100 million mark for research funding in 2018. There are around 6,000 international students representing 100 different countries.  The University of Texas Arlington is also ranked 6th in Tarrant County, for ethnic diversity with a student body composition. There are around 180 baccalaureate, masters, and doctor degree programs provided by the university. 

History

The University of Texas Arlington was established in 1895 as open research institution. Though, it was named as University of Texas at Arlington. It was associated with Universities Research Association and Oak Ridge Associated University.

In 1905, 150 students enrolled in University of Texas Arlington for the first time ever. In 1962, it joined The University of Texas System. In 1967, it was renamed to the current name. In 1987, this university was recognised as one of the Emerging Research Institute. The enrolment of students increased to 4,200 students by 1992. In 2018, it was found that 42,000 students have enrolled for the undergraduate and postgraduate courses.  

Campus

The campus is spread over 420 acres of area. It has a public library that consists of thousands of journals, books, magazines, research papers, documents and various kinds of textbooks. The campus includes College Park Centre, Glass Art Studio, Maverick Activities Centre, Nanofab Lab, The Planetarium, Smart Hospital, The Commons and The Gallery.

There are around 100 buildings in the campus. Hostel rooms are also provided under on- campus accommodation. Every room has two single rooms with an attached bathroom. Off-campus accommodation is also provided at a rate of around $650 – 850.There are many cafeterias, cafes, medical shops, stationery shops close to the campus. 

Ranking and Achievements

University of Texas Arlington is ranked as the No. 1 in Texas for degrees awarded to African American students in the 2020 edition of Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. It is also awarded as the 3rd fastest growing Doctoral Public Institution in the U.S. by Chronicle of Higher Education’s Almanac in 2019. It has been accredited with “Best College for Vets” on Military Times, 2020. It has also been ranked 6th for Ethnic Diversity by U.S. News and World Report, 2020. 

Alumni

There are around 220,000 alumni in University of Texas Arlington. About 65% out of the total alumni lives in North Texas. It is estimated that the alumni contributes around $17.7 billion for annual economic in the North Texas. 

Some of the notable alumni are –

Kalpana Chawla – She was an astronaut and engineer. She became the first lady of Indian origin to go to space. She was awarded with the Congressional Space Medal of Honor. 

Greg Abott – He is an American Attorney and politician. He was the 48th Governor of Texas.

Hunter Pence – He is an America Professional Baseball Right Fielder. He has played for Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers.
