The University of Prince Edward Island was found in the year 1969. The UPEI is a public university located in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. It is the only university in the province. 

The University of Prince Edward Island has a history of over two centuries. Back in 1804, Lt. Governor Edmund Fanning, with the Legislative Council of Prince Edward Island established the Kent College. The college was later renamed in honor of Kind Edward II in 1860.  

Two institutions, St precede the UPEI. Dunstan’s University and Prince of Wales College, established in 1855 and 1860, respectively. In the year 1969, both the institutions were fused to form a single institution that we know today by the name University of Prince Edward Island. 

Over some time, to cover more courses in academics, new faculties were added. Veterinary Medicine faculty and the Nursing school are few of the added faculties. The former St. Dunstan’s Campus is the place where UPEI is located.

Campus

The university campus stretches over 134-acres of land, in Charlottetown, the capital city of Prince Edward Island. 

The Dalton Hall, built between 1917 and 1919, and the Main building, which was built in 1854, are registered in the Historic Places of Canada.

To honor the alumni who died in the two World Wars, the War Memorial Hall was built as a men’s residence in 1946.
