The University of Bolton gained the status of university in the year 2004, before which it was known as Bolton Institute of Higher Education. The University of Bolton is located in the Bolton town of Greater Manchester, England. As of now, it has about 6000 students, 70% of which are from Bolton and the North West Region.
The vice-chancellor of the university, Professor George E Holmes Dl is the youngest university Head in the UK.
The motto of the university is a Latin phrase Sapientia Super at Moras, which translates to English as Wisdom overcomes difficulty.

History: A glimpse
Although the University of Bolton has received its university status very recently, its history goes back to 1825. The university has a very distinctive and proud heritage and has evolved through the years to stand as a modern public university.
In the year 1887, a new Technical School was created with students over 1,500. In 1926, the school became a college, and in 1941, a new building was opened for technical and engineering aspects. Then in 1964, both were named different as Bolton Technical College and Bolton Institute of Technology.
Over the years, the institutions have gone through a lot of changes and challenges, evolving and developing through practices and theories from the 19th century, enhanced in the 20th century and thriving at the present day.
Academic and Student life:
The university offers degree programs including Business and media programs, Masters, Ph.D., and research opportunities.
7% of the students are said to be international students that come from at least 70 different countries outside of the UK. The University of Bolton is culturally diverse, and it has a Chaplaincy that accommodates several different faiths. The university has been awarded for its student Services, Library, Careers Service and Reception staff and has won a silver rating in The Teaching Excellence Framework(TEF).
The university also has a team of Student’s union that focuses on many social events and works for student support and advice.
The University of Bolton has a lot of sport’s teams, including Basketball, Netball, Football, Hockey, Rugby League, and Rugby Union.
Campus and facilities:
The university campus is situated between Deane Road and Derby Street in Bolton. Two halls of residence are intended to be merged to a single location shortly.

- Senate House– Focused design disciplines, research, and consultancy services.
- The Chancellor’s Building– This centers have university libraries, student services, and coffee shops.
- Eagle Tower– This part of the university focuses on housing subject areas and academic offices.
- Bolton One– This part focuses on health, science, sports, etc.
