In 1992, Liverpool Polytechnic became Liverpool John Moores University. It has got its name from one of the great philanthropists and entrepreneurs of Liverpool, Sir John Moores.  The university believes that knowledge is power. Sir John Moores Jr, who was Sir Johns’s eldest son, served as the University’s second Chancellor from 1994 to 1999, succeeding Henry Cotton. In 2015, Lady Grantchester, his eldest daughter, was accepted as an Honorary Fellow of the University.
