Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET)

The Karnataka State Eligibility Test or KSET is recognized by the UGC in Delhi and has its office in Moulya Bhavan at the University of Mysore which is in Mysuru.

Eligibility tests show the eligibility or the capability of an individual or candidate in any particular course. Every course has their, own eligibility criteria and a cut that needs to be accessed by the candidates. According to the test results, students are then allowed to enter the course or institution.

The course is divided according to the years and not according to semesters, thus all the exams and classes are conducted accordingly. Similarly,
KSET is another eligibility exam that is conducted by the Karnataka government and it has its center in Mysore.

KSET’s chairman is Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar who is also the Vice-Chancellor of this area and the activity is coordinated by Prof. H. Rajashekhar. Currently, the Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET) covers approximately 41 subjects and has almost 11 exam centers across Karnataka. For any query or exam results, dates, notifications, sample papers, seating arrangements, examination centers, applications, hall tickets, key answers, etc.

KSET Subjects

The medium of the question paper in English and Kannada and given below are some of the subjects which are a part of KSET:

Students who have a Post Graduation Degree are allowed to sit for only one subject at a time among the 41 subjects. The syllabus of every subject is changed every year accordingly and can be downloaded from the official website of the KSET.

The sample papers of all the subjects are also available online on the official website of the Karnataka State Eligibility Test. Candidates who have secured at least 55% in their 12th class are eligible to apply for the exam. There is no age limit for appearing in the examination.

KSET Fee

The KSET examination fee for the General category is Rs. 1,150, for Cat-IIA, IIB, IIIA and IIIB the amount is Rs. 950, and for Cat- SC, ST, PWD the amount is Rs. 650. After the last day for form filling, there is an extended period as well, if any candidate is applying at that period of time then he/she will be charged with a late fee which would be Rs. 250.

Candidates can pay the amounts via Internet Banking, Credit or Debit cards, via E-Wallet Payment and by Cash payment only from State Bank of India. Money Order or Demand Drafts are not accepted and if any candidate has paid the amount, the amount won’t be refunded.

There are several KSET dates which need to be kept in mind by the candidates which are as follows:

KSET Registration

Candidates must first register themselves with the online portal of the Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET). After registering, candidates will be notified with each important date and then need to fill the online form accordingly. Candidates must remember their registered email id and their password. The photograph used in the online form must be a jpeg format photograph.

The most important columns in the online form are of the Candidates Photograph, Candidates Signature, Candidates Name, Father’s Name, Mothers Name, Date of Birth, Mobile Number, Email ID and the payment process.

There are a total of 11 test centers across Karnataka which are as follows:

KSET online application

Applicants should register for Karnataka State Eligibility Test (register for registration) online giving the required e-mail ID & password. Applicants then proceed to share the details of their personal, educational and KSET exams, while listing their academic credentials they must mention their PG course as Passed or as the case may appear.

Before filling out the KSET exam application form, candidates must ensure that they possess the scanned photograph and signature images of applicants and that they meet the KSET 2020 eligibility requirement.

  • There’s no chance that any of the options given once would allow modifications.
  • After successful registration, candidates must download the admit card.
  • Candidates should note down their E-mail ID and Password until the final KSET 2020 results have been announced.

KSET Exam Online application form

Candidates can fill out the KSET application form on the KSETs official website http://kset.uni-mysore.ac.in.

To successfully complete and apply the KSET 2020 online form, candidates must follow the steps listed below:

  • Step 1: Visit the Karnataka State Eligibility Test’s official website, and click on the link/tab application form.
  • Step 2: Register for KSET 2020 by providing the correct email ID and password on the official web site.
  • Step 3: Provide information such as personal details, educational details, contact 
  • details and KSET exam details to fill in the KSET application form
  • Step 4: Upload scanned photograph and signature images in JPG format.
  • Step 5: Pay the KSET application fee 2020 through SBI e-challan or online through debit card/credit card / net banking.

KSET Results 2020

KSET result 2020 will be tentatively announced on the University of Mysore’s official exam website in May / June. Candidates can verify the results of their Karnataka State Eligibility Test online by providing their KSET roll number in the space available on the official exam website. Candidates must qualify for the KSET exam in order to be eligible for recruitment to the Karnataka State lecture/assistant professorship position.

KSET Syllabus

KSET Conducting authority sets the syllabus for all topics. Apart from Paper I (General Knowledge and Aptitude), there are 41 subjects of specialization from which the applicants choose the subject they have learned in the PG course. Specialization matters along with the subject code and the language system in which questions are placed.

KSET Question Paper

The exam is to consists of two papers. Both papers are only composed of Objective Multiple-Selection Questions (MCQs).

Paper-I: Shall consist of 50 mandatory objective style questions each bearing 2 marks. The Issues of a general nature to determine the teaching/research capacity of the applicant. It will be specifically designed to assess the ability to think, understand, and diverge thinking and general awareness.

Paper-II: Compulsory questions of 100 objective type each with 2 marks. It will be based on the candidate’s chosen subject.

  • The nominee must mark the answers to Paper I and Paper – II questions on the Optical Marks Reader (OMR) Sheet with the test booklet provided.
  • There will be no negative marking.

KSET Exam Date

Revised dates for the KSET 2020 exam were announced. The KSET exam is set to take place on 21 June. It can be noted that in view of the Coronavirus pandemic situation the KSET examination was postponed due to the lockdown imposed in the country. The examination was scheduled for 12 April.

KSET Eligibility Marks

The candidates must note that each year the KSET cut-off changes, and there is a different cut-off for each topic and category. The cut-off is determined by the number of candidates that clear the exam and the slots available for the KSET certificate award.

The minimum cut-off necessary to declare ‘Pass’ in KSET is as follows-

Even though the candidates have reached the necessary cut-off in KSET, the KSET certificate will only be awarded on the basis of the selection procedure referred to below:

  • Only 6 percent of top candidates clearing KSET from each subject will be declared ‘Pass’ in the exam.
  • Applicants must be among the top 6 percent qualifications in each subject to be considered for the KSET certificate award.
  • The selection of applicants for the 6 percent slot shall be based on the rules and policies for reservations.

KSET Admit Card

To access the KSET 2020 hall ticket or admit card the candidates will go to KSET’s official website. The officials have not yet given the KSET 2020 admit card release date but it is expected to be released shortly. For the latest updates on the KSET 2020 hall ticket, the candidates are suggested to visit this KSET 2020 admit card page at regular intervals. 

The candidates must bear in mind that once the KSET 2020 admission card is published and they have downloaded it, they must add their recent passport-sized photograph (same as the one used during registration) in the box given on the admission card.

How to download KSET hall ticket

  • Go to the link given http://kset.uni-mysore.ac.in/app/
  • Fill the details such as application number and date of birth (password).
  • After that, KSET hall ticket will appear on the screen.
  • Check the details available in the hall ticket.
  • Download the KCET admit card 2020 and take a printout of it for future reference.
