Express Entry Draw is an online system used exclusively by the Government of Canada to manage permanent residency applications in Canada for filling labor gaps through economic immigration programs. The program was first introduced on 1st January 2015, as a replacement over the original “first-come-first-served” immigration selection system.
The system aims to interact with skilled applicants and facilitate express immigration of skilled workers to Canada while keeping track of them for when the requirement arises. In the five years of the existence of the program, the system has proved to be effective as compared to the previous systems of the same nature. This article aims to provide an overview of what Express Entry Draw is and how to apply for it.

Express Entry Draw: Overview
It should be noted that the Express Entry isn’t an immigration program. Still, rather it is a system that manages applications for three different merit-based immigration programs, namely Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades (FST), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). The programs above are focused on attaining skilled workers for their work.
To test immigration candidates, the Canadian government (IRCC) developed a merit-based Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which assigns a score (CRS score) to each candidate in the Express Entry pool. The Canadian government (IRCC) conducts an Express Entry draw, where ITAs for permanent Residence are offered to the candidates having the highest CRS Score, once in a fortnight.
It should be noted that Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) does not disclose beforehand, information regarding the express entry draw.
Express Entry Draw: How to apply
Express Entry has a 4 step process. First, two being part of the prerequisites, later two being part of the Entry System.
- Step 1: Firstly, the candidates have to check whether they apply to the program of Express Entry.
- Step 2: For this, they have to submit their documents, such as language test results, to show that you’re eligible for Express Entry.
- The Express Entry system uses a bilevel enrollment procedure:-
- Step 3: Candidates interested in getting Permanent Residence in Canada can submit their Express Entry profiles to the Canadian government, acknowledging their interest in becoming a permanent resident of Canada. Once the profile has been submitted, the candidate is assigned a CRS score calculated according to the credentials submitted via the profile, which ranks them against the other candidates in their Express Entry pool.
- Step 4: Depending on the result of the previous step, if the candidate receives a high CRS score, he/she would be offered an ITA (Invitation to Apply). Applicants have a period of 60 days to submit an electronic Application for Permanent Residence (eAPR), which acts as an acceptance for the ITA. If this application is complete and information provided in the Express Entry profile is validated, then the applicant, along with any other accompanying family member or acquaintance, is granted permanent resident status in Canada.

Provincial Nominee Programs
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) is an immigration program hosted exclusively by Canada’s provinces and territories. Express Entry System is followed by most of the systems. Under PNPs, a territory can nominate a foreign Resident for immigration through one of the Express Entry programs.
Nomination received by a province/territory results in a 600-point hike to a person’s overall CRS score, theoretically guaranteeing them an Invitation to Apply(ITA) in the next Express Entry draw

Ans. With a CRS score of 450 there is a good chance of getting Canada PR. Start thinking of PNP options (state-sponsored Canada PR) at the earliest.
Ans. There is high express entry score required as the government of Canada held a smaller, federal trade class-specific draw rather than an all-program draw which involves the three Express Entry-managed programs
Ans. The CRS score cannot be dropped below as in the last EE draw we saw that there were 11,000 candidates still remaining in the pool who had a score of more than 451. This clearly indicates that in the next 3 draws it will not come down.
