The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur abbreviated as IIT Kharagpur or IIT-KGP) is a technical and public university established by the government of India in 1951. IIT Kharagpur is located in Kharagpur in the state of West Bengal in India. Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is majorly a research institute. 

IIT Kharagpur is the first of the IITs to be established. After India attained Independence in 1947, the institute was initially established to train scientists and engineers. Over the years, academics have become diverse in various fields. The IIT Kharagpur has a huge campus of about 8.5 square kilometers. The IIT Kharagpur provides on-campus accommodation to its students, research scholars, faculties, and its staff and houses about 22,000 residents on its campus. 

The students must pay for wired internet connection in the university hostels or halls. This institute has 23 halls on the whole. Due to the scarcity of rooms, students of the first years are required to share the rooms with being 2 in a room or so. 

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has so many courses available from Bachelors to Masters, namely a few courses, Bachelor of Architecture which is for five years which is full-time and the requirement for this course is JEE Advanced, Master of Business Administration which is for two years for full-time and the required exams are CAT, B.Tech.

In Computer Science and Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Science and Engineering, Agricultural and Food Engineering, Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Communication, Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc. which is for four years of full-time and the required exam is JEE Advanced, Masters of Technology in Food Process Engineering, Embedded Control and Software, Computer Science and Data processing, Agriculture Biotechnology, Farm Machinery, and Power, etc. which is for two years of full-time and the required exam is GATE, M.Arch. In various majors, which is for a duration of2 years full-time and the required exam is GATE, Executive MBA, which is for three years part-time. 

There are also integrated courses available such as Integrated B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics and computing, etc. which is for five years total, and it is a full-time course, and the required exam is JEE Advanced.

The IIT Kharagpur provides an online application which provides help to students to ease their application process. Also, this university reserves 15% seats to SC students, 7.5% for ST students, and 27% for the other backward classes. A student must have 75% marks in PCM in the 12th grade for B.Tech, BTech+MTech, BArch, and 60% marks for MTech, MSc, MBA. 

There is a counseling process after the minimum eligibility criteria testing of marks of 12th or undergrad scores along with the additional scores. The IIT Kharagpur application process is conducted in three simple steps, such as filling the application form, upload the scanned images of the documents required, and then pay the examination fees.
