Stanley Medical College was established in 1938. It is a government-owned medical college with many associated hospitals. Stanley Hospital is really very old and nearly has a 200-year-old legacy serving the native Chennai. New medical and surgical units were created and incorporated in 1941. Stanley medical college was founded by Sir George Fedrick Stanley on July 2, 1938. It was first named as Royapuram medical school and later on, it was renamed as Stanley Medical college because of him.

Apart from well-equipped classrooms, a goal-focused education is what the University emphasizes on to get the students started on their successful careers. Every day there is an outpouring of patients from different parts of Chennai and also from Andhra Pradesh. The first-year professors and faculties are very friendly and helpful. Medical College, Hospital and Hostels are located very close to each other. Students do not have to walk a mile or catch a bus to go to their classes from the hostel. The institute houses several departments of the hospital including nephrology, dermatology, and neurology.
The Institute Hand rehabilitation and Plastic Surgery and Institute of Gastroenterology are gems in the crown of Stanley and are the best in the State of Tamil Nadu. Students can get the best hands-on experience during their one year of CRRI (Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship). Library facilities and Research works are of par excellence.

Stanley Medical College Hostel:
The first year and second-year students stay in the NEW MEN’S PG HOSTEL along with the postgraduate students. It was built in 2011 and looks very neat and tidy. This is located opposite the hospital.
The third and final year students are allotted hostels near the hospital itself called H, I and RED block. They are very old but the surrounding is very pleasant.
In each hostel, they have a recreation room and an air-conditioned Reading room that is kept open 24/7 for the students.

The Stanley medical Hospital has around 1280 beds for patients undergoing treatment. Over 5000 out-patients visit the hospital every day. At a time, 40 surgeries can be performed at the Hospital. The doctors ensure to provide world-class services to the patients and have expertise in their respective fields.
