Dates for IELTS Exam

IELTS, an abbreviation for International English Language Testing System, is a standardized test that was established in 1989.  It is developed and administered by the British Council, IDP Education, and Cambridge Assessment English 

The main purpose of this test is to measure the English language proficiency of Non – English speaking people who are willing to study or work in a country where the native language is English. 

The measurement is done using a nine-band scale for identifying the proficiency levels where a score band of 0 measures a Non-English speaker and a score band of 9 measures an expert in the English Language. This test is designed in such a way that it covers the entire range of skills and abilities from beginners to experts.

  • IELTS is of two kinds. Firstly, IELTS Academic Test, which is conducted for the people who are seeking for higher education or any professional registration in an English speaking environment and, secondly, IELTS General Training, which is conducted for the people who are willing to migrate for a secondary level education, work experience purpose or to get trained.
  • The main feature of this test is to measure proficiency in English which includes abilities such as listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
  • The speaking ability is considered as the main component of this test in which the candidate is assessed by the examiner in the form of a personal interview. The PI session is also recorded for the further monitoring process.
  • The IELTS test is conducted 4 times a month. The score ranges from 0-9 and it’s validity stands for 2 years. There is neither any eligibility criteria nor any official pre-requisite for this examination.
  • The total duration of this examination is approx 3 hours. This duration consists of the listening part for approx 40 minutes, the reading part for approx 60 minutes, the writing part for approx 60 minutes, and the speaking part for approx 15-20 minutes.

IDP i.e., International Development Programme, is an educational organization and a co-owner of IELTS Exam offering a wide range of IELTS preparation materials for free along with free access to video lectures, sample tests and preparation tips.

IELTS Exam Dates for British Council

The British Council is the UK’s renowned international organization which is acknowledged for it’s cultural relations and educational opportunities. The British Council IELTS is Partnership Programme for those organizations which are preparing and registering the candidates for IELTS.

IELTS Date 2019

IELTS Date 2019 was announced by the British Council and IDP. There are 48 exams lined-up for the academic version while 24 exams for General Training. IELTS Date of 2019 is only available on Thursday and Friday. The deadline for registration of candidates is 2 weeks prior to the commencement of the exam.

  • IELTS paper-pen based exam is conducted 4 times a month.
  • A 9-band scale is used to evaluate the IELTS exam.
  • IELTS certificate is valid for 2 years in most cases and 3 years in some cases.

IELTS Date 2018

IELTS dates for 2018 varied on the basis of computer-based or paper-based tests. The computer-based test is conducted 3 times a day and  7 days a week. IELTS dates 2018 was announced by the British Council. It was conducted 48 times in the year and 4 times a month.

  • IELTS is not recommended for students below 16 years of age.
  • The fees for IELTS 2018 in India were Rs13,250.
  • The candidate will have to pay Rs 1900 for transferring the test date in India.

IELTS Date registration

IELTS date registration is available at www.ieltsidpindia.com. The IELTS date for registration is different for computer-based and paper-based exams. The computer-based exam is available throughout the year while the paper-based exam is conducted 48 times throughout the year. IELTS date booking depends on the availability of seats. IELTS date booking needs to be done 2 weeks prior to the exam. A passport is mandatory for registering for the IELTS exam. 

Steps for IELTS Date Registration and Booking-

  • Go to www.ieltsidpindia.com
  • Select register for test option, and choose your preferred test type, location, and available test date.
  • Give your personal details.
  • Upload scanned copies of your passport.
  • Select the colleges where your report needs to be delivered.
  • Pay the fees and print the acknowledgment receipt.

IELTS Date Availability

IELTS date availability depends on the type of test. The computer-based IELTS test is available three times every day while the paper-based test is available only on selected dates. IELTS date availability for the paper-based test varies according to the demand of candidates. Prior registration is mandatory for the IELTS test. 

  • Thursday and Saturday are only days when paper-based IELTS is conducted.
  • A computer-based IELTS exam is conducted every day.
  • During peak time, seats get filled-up to one month in advance.

The IDP IELTS India and British Council are the major administered bodies that conduct the examination throughout India 4 times in a month fixing 48 dates for the test in a year. The availability for the IELTS Exam Dates in India for both the modules may differ. The tests are mostly conducted on Thursdays and Saturdays for the candidate's convenience.

Q-1) How can I cancel or postpone my IELTS Exam?

Ans: Candidates can either postpone or cancel their IELTS Exam by approaching personally or by sending a mail. Cancelation or postponement of the IELTS Exam will not take place through telephone communication.

Q-2) What is the difference between IELTS Academics and IELTS General Training?

Ans: IELTS Academics is a test conducted for those people who are willing to pursue a tertiary level of education whereas, IELTS General Training is a test conducted for those who are willing to migrate to a foreign country for study or work.

Q-3) What is the passing score for the IELTS Exam?

Ans: IELTS Exam is conducted to measure the proficiency of a candidate in the English language which measured with a nine-band scale (0-9). Thee is no minimum score required for this test. It is measured with the help of this scale where 0 indicates a non-user and 9 indicates an expert user.

Q-4) Which is the toughest section in IELTS?

Ans: None of the section is considered to be the hardest section because this test needs thorough preparation and practice for every section. Therefore, there is no easy and tough section in this examination.

Q-5) Can I pass IELTS Exam without coaching?

Ans: Candidates who are willing to prepare for the exam on their own can refer the IELTS preparation guides containing interactive video sessions, sample tests which will help them to prepare for the exam without coaching classes and they can also visit the IELTS website for other support and study materials.
