Most of the mankind want to educate and see their growth in an exponential order. And when it comes to devote yourself to the society, only two names comes in the picture, doctor and teacher. Constant devotee to the society and a responsible person to build the future of others, teachers win our hearts everywhere.

Mostly in the society, the true ambitious ones apply or opt for the profession. It’s really about taking responsibility of the future generation. A teacher isn’t the one who only teaches a book, but also how to live. Basically, 

  • It provides the opportunity to teach in pre-primary, primary, secondary and senior secondary stages in schools, non-formal and part-time education, adult education (correspondence) and distance education courses.
  • It conducts research in the field of Teacher Education.
  • It provides resource support in the field of Teacher Education.
  • It develops data base on various aspects of Teacher Education.

What is NCTE?

NCTE produces the creators we’re talking about, who play important roles in developing the society. As we know, bookish knowledge is not always enough, a partition is done in NCERT to be more practical and efficient. 

NCTE is a statutory body of Indian Government set up under the National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993. Here’s a overview:

  • This part of Indian Government was formed in 1995, before that it was existed as an advisory body to look after development and progress of education of the educators.
  • It aims at training individuals to teach pre-primary, primary, secondary and senior secondary stages in schools, non-formal and part-time education, adult education (correspondence) and distance education courses.
  • NCTE is an ex-department of NCERT, National Council of Educational Research and Training, it got parted in 1995.

NCTE full form:

The name, NCTE stands for National Council for Teacher Education, based on the act, passed on 1933. 

NCTE Certificate:

This is the certificate that let a candidate to teach in the institutions. But before that, the certificate is to be evaluated on a webpage, need to mention their information at the official website, ncte.gov.in/optrms. The portal is called online teacher-pupil registration management system (OPTRMS). Candidates will have to pay Rs 200 for each certificate, as per the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) – certifying body.

NCTE Norms:

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (o) of sub-section (2) of section 32 read with sub-section (7) of section 20 of the National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993 (73 of 1993), and in suppression of the National Council for Teacher Education (Establishment, Location and Territorial Jurisdiction of the Regional Committees) Regulations, 2017, except as respects things done or omitted to be done before such suppression, the National Council for Teacher Education hereby makes the following regulations, namely:-

  1. Short title and commencement:
  • These Regulations may be called the National Council for Teacher Education (Regional Committees Territorial Jurisdiction), Regulations, 2020.
  • They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

2. The territorial jurisdiction of the Regional Committees established under the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 20 of the National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993.

Approved B.Ed colleges list:

NCTE consider the certificate valid of the candidates if it is issued by the colleges that has approval from NCTE. B.Ed colleges provide the degree to let a candidate teach in secondary schools. Some of the colleges, that are NCTE approved, are:

NCTE recognized teacher education programme:

There are three type of teacher education programme, I.e B.Ed, D.El.Ed and M.Ed. One can be eligible for primary, secondary and college/universities by having some specific degrees.

  • To be eligible in the primary schools, one should have D.El.Ed degree.
  • To be eligible in the secondary or higher secondary institutions, one should have B.Ed degree.
  • By having M.Ed degree, one can apply for the universities/colleges that produces more teachers.

Functions of NCTE:

The main function of the NCTE is to achieve planned and coordinated development of the teacher education system throughout the country, the regulation and proper maintenance of Norms and Standards in the teacher education system and for matters connected therewith

NCTE rules for Work Education Teacher:

To be appointed as an work education teacher, one must fulfil it’s minimum qualifications, that is diploma or certificate in basic teachers’ training of a duration of not less than two years.

Professional ethics is defined as the personal and corporate rules that expresses behaviour within the context of a particular profession. So teacher much also follow some rules/ethics to gain interest of the students, to inspire them. It’ll lead them to a respectful position in students’ lives.

  • That every child has a fundamental right to learn/study, every student should be treated with love and affection.
  • That every child has an inherent potential and talent, so teacher should respect the value of being just and impartial to all the students irrespective of their caste, creed, religion, sex, economic status, disability language and place of birth.
  • That education should be directed to all-round development of the society/environment.
  • Strive to develop respect for the composite culture of India through Education.
  • Takes pride in the teaching profession and treats other members of the profession with respect and dignity.
